Uniform Insignia and Awards

Information provided on this page gives the location and spacing of decorations that are worn on our uniforms.
 
Assignment Pins:
Long Sleeve Shirt - Pins are to be worn parallel to the bottom of collar, centered between the top and bottom of collar, 1" from the front of collar.

Short Sleeve Shirts - Pins are to worn centered across the point of the collar.
 

Maryland State Pins:
Class A Dress Blouse - Pins are to be worn pointing down on the upper portion of the birds mouth on the lapel.

Winter Coat - Pins are to be worn pointing down, centered on the collar 1" from the bottom.

Commendations Pins:
 
Wear the following awards in lines centered over and approximately 1/4" above the badge:
  1. Medal of Honor
    Medal of Honor Ribbon or Medal of Honor
  2. Legion of Merit
  3. Silver Star
    Silver Star
  4. Bronze Star
    Bronze Star
  5. Life Saving Award
    Life Saving
  6. Distinguished Service
    Distinquished Service
  7. Commendation
    Commendation

Display these awards, two to a line, with the highest award being to the right (inboard) or above awards of lesser distinction.

When the number of ribbons constitutes an odd number, wear the highest award above the awards of lesser distinction.  If the Legion of Merit is displayed, it shall be centered above all other awards, subordinate to the Medal of Honor.  If the Medal of Honor is displayed, it shall be worn centered over the badge and above all other awards.
 
Wear the following awards in a line centered over and approximately 1/4" above the name plate:
  1. Citation of Valor
    Valor
  2. Service Cross
  3. Unit Citation
    Unit Citation
  4. The Special Commendation of 1968e. Chamber of Commerce.
    Riot Ribbon
  5. The Special Commendation of Eastern District Initative
    ED Initiative
  6. The Special Commendation of 2000
    2000 Award
  7. Good Driving
    Safe Driving

Display these awards, two to a line, with the highest award being worn to the left (inboard) or above awards of lesser distinction.

Wear two color ribbons with the orange or gold portion inboard to the black or blue portion of the ribbon.  Awards with the gold star are worn with the point of the star up.

Wear awards or commendations from other agencies and/or the military only with the prior approval of the Police Commissioner.  Awards of this nature will be worn above the badge subordinate to any departmenal awards, but in the same manner as departmental awards.  Awards from other law enforcement agencies shall be warn above military awards or commendations.
